At IFS Laboratories we conduct real-time, intermediate and accelerated stability studies to accurately define the shelf life of your products and to determine the duration for which the product is effective and safe for use. As the cannabis market is rapidly growing, lawmakers are redefining regulations and as a result there is a great consumer push for quality, purity and safety. For cannabis and hemp producers, this means it’s important to have robust data to demonstrate the long term effectiveness and safety of their products.


What is stability testing and why is it important?

The objective of stability testing is to provide evidence on how the quality of a product, material or substance changes with time, under the influence of a variety of environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and light. Environmental conditions can have an adverse effect on products overtime, in particular those with active ingredients such as CBD and Nicotine. Degradation can reduce the potency of the active ingredient meaning your product will not function, taste or even smell as intended when stored inappropriately or beyond its recommended shelf life. High humidity conditions can increase moisture levels that can lead to the development of mold and mildew which can be harmful to humans when consumed


Testing and Analysis:

Stability studies should always include testing of certain characteristics of the products and substances that are susceptible to change during storage and are likely to influence quality, safety, and/or efficacy. Testing should always cover, the Physical, Chemical, biological and microbiological properties using validated analytical methods of analysis. For long term studies, frequency of testing should be sufficient to establish the stability profile of the product.

REAL TIME: 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months at (25°C ± 2°C / 60% RH ± 5% RH)

INTERMEDIATE: 6 months – (20-days accelerated at 30°C ± 2°C / 65% RH ± 5% RH)

ACCELERATED: 6 months – (40-days accelerated at 40°C ± 2°C / 75% RH ± 5% RH)
